Nude Liquid Lipsticks Compared

I've had a love for liquid lipsticks since the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets hit the scene and as much as I loved them I wanted some more shades I could wear everyday. I made the mistake of wearing a red on a day I was taking my son swimming. I popped it on in the morning without a thought. I hadn't reapplied all day (or looked in a mirror, apparently) and it wasn't until that evening in a kids pool with my son, in a bikini with a striking red lip looking like I thought I was some sort of a 50's pin up. They are great that you can leave them on all day and pretty much forget about them, with my day's being all over the place, juggling mum-life, work-life and home-life I need something to suit all occasions.

Like many men on Tinder I was after some nudes!

I've been wearing these 3 nude shades a lot for the past few weeks. I love the fact they all set in place, you can pretty much leave them on for the day without worrying about reapplying. I find them to be a great base for lipsticks too if you want to change the shade a little bit. Adding a sheer pink over the top of a nude is very cute for spring.

Let me break them down for you...

liquid-lipsticks-nyx-lip-lingerie-babydoll-Revlon-seduction-barry-m-pose-swatchestop to bottom- NYX Lip Lingerie Babydoll, Revlon Ultra HD Seduction and Barry M Matte-Me-Up Pose

NYX Lip Lingerie in Babydoll (£6.50) is the lightest shade. It has an ALMOST candy-pink to it without being too much. This is very quick drying and out of the three the most drying on the lips but not so much that it's a problem. I didn't think it felt heavy or stiff at all, just if you have particularly chapped lips then avoid this one. The staying power is awesome though.

Rimmel Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Seduction (£8.99)
I really like the frosted packaging of this one and as it's slightly bigger it's easy to find in my bag and see which shade it is. This has a different texture to the others, it's much more like a lipstick with it's creamy, velvety feel. It's a bit of a warmer shade so it's perfect for all year round - it will be fab in Autumn. It has a slight vanilla scent and I wouldn't say it's your typical matte finish, it's definitely not glossy but not strictly matte either.

'Matte with a little somethin' somethin'

Barry M Matte-Me-Up Lip Kit in Pose (£6.99)
If you want something long lasting this is the one to go for. All swatches lasted on my arm all day (and overnight cos I'm a total dirtbag!) and when I washed them off in the shower the next morning this one took the most amount of rubbing to remove. It goes on more watery than the others but it is still easy to apply and dries pretty quickly. It looks a lot more pink when it's first applied but dries slightly darker with more of a brown tone. It's a reasonable price anyway but you get more for your money with this lip kit as you get a fab lip liner too.

They all feel fairly light on the lips to me, I don't really notice I'm wearing them but I am used to wearing a lip colour every day. I think I need to pic up some brighter shades for Summer and I've heard some great things about NYX Liquid suede's too. I don't think I'll ever own enough lipsticks but for me liquid lips is the way to go this season if not just for the easy life!

The prices I've included are based on the Boots website but there are always offers on to save you some money.

I'd love to know your liquid lip recommendations. Tweet me or leave me a comment.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is creeping up on us. For me it's the start of Spring, even though technically the first day of Spring was this week I always feel like Mother's Day is the first time it really feels Spring-like to me. I suppose because I always buy flowers I just always associate the day with bright colours and pretty things.

My Mum doesn't like a huge fuss, even though she does so much for me and my brothers she would prefer us all to be together than be given lots of presents. I like to make sure I get her a little something just to say thank you for everything she does for us. Much like Christmas and Valentine's day, it's not about the presents but it's nice to have a day to show you really appreciate someone and want to take time to treat them.

I've already posted about the great Lush Mother's Day range which has some great ideas but I wanted to add a few things I've thought of that would be a perfect treat.

My Mum always asks for her favourite foundation and mascara. She usually leaves it up to me to chose a mascara as she chops and changes her brands a lot. I went to get her the YSL Faux Cils mascara one year but she told me not to waste my money - she's more than happy with L'Oreal or Revlon. Her favourite foundation is Revlon's Colorstay and I can't knock her choice there!

I plan to pick up some flowers and a Boots voucher as she's not low on any make up at the moment. But I've found a couple of other bits I wanted to share that also make good presents for any Mum.

I recently ordered a few Yankee Votive Candles  that are perfect scents for Spring. These are super cheap too and a great way to try out a scent without shelling out for a large candle. They're perfect extras to add to a gift.

These all have a beach theme which means a lot to my Mum and I as we spent every Summer at our holiday home in West Sussex.

The first scent is Pink Sands which is sweet and floral with notes of Citrus and Berry with a Vanilla base.

Next is Driftwood which also has a sweetness to it from the mix of waterlily, Tonka Bean and Cedar with added sea salt

I also added Sea Air which I find really refreshing and crisp. It reminds me of sea water and has a really fresh beach flower scent too.

You can't go wrong with a lovely skincare treat. I was recently sent a product from Inner Soul to try out and I just love it, I had to add it to this list.
Developed by Emma Coleman, Inner-Soul’s Healing Night Balm* has been designed to use all over the face and support skin healing as you sleep.

inner-soul-healing-night-balmYou only need a small amount  (they recommend a berry sized amount of product) Smooth it over the face, neck and eyes before you go to sleep, it's best to use upward and outward sweeps to help with circulation. Press onto areas of imbalance using the fingertips. Take a moment to inhale the relaxing scents of Patchouli and Lavender  which naturally hydrate the skin by balancing sebum production and have a deeply calming effect on the mind. The scent is wonderful and I've always had a great sleep when I've applied this.

It's made with 100% natural, 99% organic ingredients so it's suitable for vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.

There are some wonderful ingredients in there such as :
Certified organic Mango Butter which provides rejuvenating vitamin A.
Arnica - a natural homoeopathic remedy for dealing with bruising and has been added to this balm to heal and reduce dark circles.
Amaranth -extracted from the seeds of the plant, has naturally potent abilities to reduce inflammation and dryness over the skin.
And Squalane - extracted from olives -a natural antioxidant and owing to its small molecular structure permeates the skin rapidly. It softens skin, reduces outbreaks and helps to reverse sun damage.

That's a whole lot of goodness and a real treat for any Mum who needs some pampering. I'm really loving it so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the long term effects.

*I was kindly gifted this product but all thoughts are my own

Bobbi Brown Mother's Day make-over at the Bentall Centre

I think it's so important to make time for the people that really matter in your life. The people that shape your life and make you who you are, no matter what day of the year but Mother's Day is a great excuse to take time out for your Mum.
I've always been close to my family and recent events have made me so much more grateful to have their support. They've helped me and Sam through so much in so many ways I can't even begin to explain. They're all just incredible.

Since becoming  a Mum myself I realise just how much Mum's do for their kids, it's something you just don't really realise. It's a 24 hour job which is extremely exhausting at times but incredibly rewarding at the same time (even though at some of the more stressful times you don't always realise it!). My big sister Kelly is a Mum to my two beautiful nieces and she's recently earned a  law degree and a job at one of the biggest companies in the world.

She's 12 years older than me and I have looked up to her for as long as I can remember. I used to love Kylie Minogue as a kid and my sister reminded me of her -I think it was down to the 'perm stage' they both went through, we won't go into that.
She lived with her Mum so I only saw her at weekends, then less-so when she got a boyfriend but when she did come to stay I would be so excited. I remember lining up all of my barbies in a parade to 'welcome' her. Aren't I just the cutest?!

She stopped me biting my nails, it's hard to believe I ever used to bite my nails as I'm always getting comments on how long my nails are - that's down to her. She's who I went to when I left school and didn't know what to do with my life, she told me if I went straight out to work I would enjoy the idea of money rather than be interested in studying. She was right but it was definitely the best path for me to go down. I ended up being really target-driven and in a job I adored. I've always said she's a more sensible, prettier version of me and she is one tough cookie- she can handle anything.

Both Kelly and my Mum have been the biggest female influences in my life, proving that anything is possible with or without a man in your life. They've made me realise that life has it's ups and downs but with the right people around you, you can get through anything.

Last weekend I was invited down to The Bentall Centre, Kingston for a bit of a treat in time for Mother's Day. I was offered a day with my Mum (or Mother figure) to take some time out and have a pamper at one of their many make-up counters and a bit of lunch too.

While my Mum is absolutely incredible she's really not into the whole make-over thing. Naturally I was going to ask Kelly to join me. I immediately thought of her when I was approached for this day out, as we both have pretty busy lives I always love any excuse to spend time with her.

So on Sunday Kelly and I headed over to Kingston for some quality time together. First on the agenda was to get some food. After parking the car we took a little wander through the furniture section of Bentalls and fantasised about our dream garden.

Bentalls is the department store located within The Bentall Centre, Kingston and is part of the Fenwick group. There's a great selection of toys, homewares, clothing brands and a beautiful, big beauty hall which I will get to in a bit...

If you want something to eat while you're shopping, Bentalls have got you covered. We headed to the third floor to Restaurant on 3 where we were greeted by Sarah who told us all about the wide selection of food available. They really had everything you could wish for, a pizza oven where they made a pizza right in front of you, a pasta station, and a huge selection of hot food from a roast dinner to fish and chips. For lighter options there were freshly made sandwiches on delicious baked bread and an impressive salad bar too. We really were spoilt for choice, after much deliberation I opted for roast beef whilst Kelly had a freshly made bolognese.

We had a bit of time before our make-over appointment so we decided to have a coffee afterwards. I  couldn't help but notice the wide selection of delicious looking pastries and cakes so we gave in to temptation - we were having a treat after all! I could easy have picked one of everything, it all looked so good!

The restaurant is nicely tucked away so you don't feel right amongst the hustle and bustle of busy shoppers, it's the perfect place to have a rest from shopping. It gave us a chance to really catch up over a good cup of coffee.

We then headed downstairs for our appointment at the Bobbi Brown counter. I have always heard great things about Bobbi Brown, but I was yet to try out any of her make-up. This make-up lesson was going to be a great way to see which products worked best for me. We were both sat down and asked about what kind of thing we were after. I wanted a day look that wasn't too much work in the mornings. My make-up artist Amanda knew exactly what to go for and the first step was to prep my skin.

My make up was removed using the lovely Soothing Cleansing Oil, followed by the hydrating face tonic to remove any last traces of make-up and sooth and soften the skin which smelt incredible and the scent was so calming I was immediately put at ease. Then Amanda applied a Hydrating Eye Cream and Hydrating Face Cream which are perfect to use under make-up. The Illuminating Moisture Balm was then applied to act as a sort-of primer to boost my skin give my face a natural glow due to the lychee extracts that it contains. You could really see how radiant my skin was looking already, it was like a mini facial. Bobbi Brown really believes in making sure the skin is really taken care of to ensure the make up looks its best.

I was really impressed with the skincare range and I had never thought about purchasing skincare from a make up specialist before but they clearly know their stuff.

Next was time to add a base, I was perfectly colour matched and Amanda applied the Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation and Creamy Concealer then set it with the Sheer Finish Pressed Powder which was so soft and fine it was like baby powder. She really brightened up my eye area which was really needed due to my lack of sleep lately! The overall look was so natural and felt light on the skin which I think is the tell tale sign of high end make-up, you barely notice you're wearing it.

The product that really stood out to me was the Illuminating Cheek Palette which is from the new Havana Brights  collection which is what was used on my cheeks. It contains a gorgeous bronzer, blush and highlight which are perfect for Summer. I admit the blush looked pretty bright and scary at first but when applied it really gave me a warm glow. I really loved the Long-Wearing Cream Shadow Stick too. It is dual ended with perfectly matched colours to contour the eye area, Amanda gave me a lovely subtle smokey eye and after wearing my make-up for the rest of the day I was impressed how well it stayed put perfectly.

We were both so pleased with our make-up and the service from the girls at the counter who weren't pushy at all and had such great knowledge of the products and Bobbi Brown as a company. I'll definitely be taking more notice of the products from Bobbi Brown and I can really see me heading to the counter again soon.

Afterwards we went for a little wander around the shops. There's loads of great products in the Bentalls Centre to treat your Mum to. Here's a little gift guide for inspiration. I personally love the Kikki K planner!

Thank you everyone at Bentalls for making our Sister day out really special!

Revamp your hair colour with Colour Vibe

When I was 16 I started dying my hair, I realised that dull brown wasn't right for me and I went blonde. Over the years I've tried every colour imaginable. Weekends were spent with my best friend, we would go to Starbucks then head Superdrug to pick up a box of hair dye as I fancied a change and didn't care about the damage I was doing to my hair. There were times I would dye my hair twice in one week. I didn't use hair masks or anything. Needless to say, along with regular straightening my hair was a brittle mess!

I was recently given the chance to try out Colour Vibe hair toners. They are used like a regular shampoo to revamp your hair and switch up the colour without damaging it as they contain no peroxide, no ammonia, or harsh chemicals

They are really simple to use, you just apply a handful in the shower like you would with a regular shampoo and leave it on for 5 minutes. You can leave it on longer if you want a more intense result.

I wish I had options like this back then, I would have saved my hair from years of neglect whilst still being able to experiment. There are 13 shades available including silver, pink and lilac pastel shades and more natural reds, brunettes and blondes.

It's worth noting that these don't dye your hair, they tone them so it is a temporary thing - which makes them so fun to try out. If you have bleached hair the colours are going to be more striking and you can experiment with the pastel shades.

I've tried out Ash Blonde and Ice Blonde. My hair has highlights and since it's been a while since my last trip to the salon it has got really dull recently. This opportunity really came along at the right time. I use purple shampoo to help with blonde hair once a week but this really helped brighten my hair and freshen it up. The Ice Blonde, being the paler of the two gave my highlights a real kick. Of course it did nothing to the hair that wasn't already light, you aren't going to get drastic results without bleach but it was really great on my hair that had already been dyed and removed the brassiness.

It lasts 3 washes and you can get a good 4 or 5 uses out of a bottle. For only £2.99 they are definitely worth a try. You can pick them up at Boots and at the moment they have a buy one get one half price offer so it's the perfect excuse to pick up a couple.

*these were kindly gifted to me but as always all thoughts are 100% my own

Lush Mother's Day Wish List

Mother's Day is coming guys! 26th March - not this weekend but the one after, you're welcome. I love any excuse to treat my Mum, and now I am a Mum, I get a coupe of treats too, I knew labour was worth it! You can't go wrong with Lush treats for Mother's Day (unless your my Mum who hates baths, but she's weird) and they always bring out the cutest product in time for Mother's Day.

There are some really lovely bits out this year, I hear the Easter items to follow are pretty impressive but these are my favourites of the Mother's Day 2017 collection.

Scrubee Body Butter £6.95
Rub this honey, cocoa butter coconut shell-filled bumble bee over your body for smooth, soft skin that smells gorgeous.

Pink Custard Shower Jelly £4.25
I've not tried a shower jelly before but it's a soap bar with a difference. It wobbles like jelly, is so fun and has a scent like the 'Think Pink' bath bomb with a bit of lavender.

Mum Bath Bomb £2.95
It comes in 2 colours. It's cheap and cheerful,  smells like sweets and it says Mum on it - what more do you want?!

 Yummy Mummy Shower Cream £4.95
I'm not going to lie, I was drawn to the colour of this. I hate the term Yummy Mummy but I can let Lush get away with it as the scent is so lovely and sweet- and my Comforter Shower Cream has just run out.

Honey Lip Scrub £5.95
I love the lip scrubs, I find them perfect to have on my desk next to me throughout the day. This one is sweet like honey and helps smooth dry lips.
