April 2014 Haul Post

I've been good lately, I've kept my spending to a minimum and have been keeping my shopping to the online window variety.

But these things are always going to be short lived! Office seem to have removed the shoes I wanted to buy in every colour and now I'm starting to believe I made them up. I even tweeted them (several times) to find out what happened but I am still non the wiser. This helped a lot with my spending as £65 a pair and me wanting at least 4 of the colours available was soon going to dent into M's food budget (I KID I KID! Of course I don't spend my child's food money on shoes!)

I started off small, I had a bit of a peek at some blog sales. and with Claire selling a
Sleek 'Storm' Palette, a Nails Inc polish in Piccadilly Circus and Maybelline Babylips in pink punch all for less than the cost of a Starbucks Frappuccino I couldn't resist!

I also treated myself to a nail polish from the Models Own Polish for Tan range. I really don't need another neon shade but I had to try out one and 'Shades' is definitely a colour I will get a lot of wear out of, just look how bright it is!

My Spring/Summer Wish List got the better of me, when Missguided were offering a code to give you 10%, 15% or 20% off I added a few things to my basket just to see what my code would get me and when it deducted the big 2 0 I couldn't help but click checkout now. ...free Saturday delivery too, what's a girl to do?!

I got myself two dresses. a lovely LBD from Nicole's range and a strappy number to wear when the sun comes out. I've already planned dates around these outfits. Anyone else do that?

I've had a House of Fraser Voucher burning a hole in my pocket for months and as it could only be spent online it limited me somewhat. Why don't they sell all of their brands online? With Topshop and Miss Selfridge this voucher would have gone ages ago.

But after a very tough day I settled down to some online browsing to cheer me up and like magic the voucher was spent. I finally purchased the Origins Ginzing Moisturiser I've wanted for ages which actually worked out better to buy the gift set as it was the same price and I got to try out the Clear Improvement mask too.

The 2 things that really cheer me up are new shoes and new lipsticks. I knew I wanted a YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick -it's the packaging, too gorgeous to resist! And I ended up selecting 'Coral Intuitive' and I am obsessed with it already. It's gorgeous!

There was a limited edition bottle of Nails Inc polish in the sale. Another thing where the packaging just got me! This one is Oxford Street, a bright pink -yet not as bright as the website might have you believe -naughty....

We're planning a bit shopping trip to really stock up for Summer bits so there will be another haul soon.

Musical Theatre Tag

I've seen this tag going around and being a big musicals fan I love reading them. In fact I was reading blogs posts when I was feeling really down, I couldn't even buy a pair of shoes to cheer me up as there was nothing I liked online (it's a hard life I know) and reading this tag really perked me up, I popped on the Hairspray soundtrack and I was smiley again in no time - that's the magic of theatre, darling.

Musicals have been a big part of my life for years. I spent all of my childhood Summers at our holiday home in Sussex, there was a cabaret that did an Andrew Lloyd Webber show so I ended up being word-perfect with songs from a lot of his musicals before I even saw them on stage. I've always lived/worked close to or in London so with the West End on my doorstep I was lucky to be able to take advantage of the amazing shows it has to offer. For me it's a perfect night out.

So here's a few answers to some musical based questions. Anyone who likes musicals, you should enjoy this, anyone who doesn't.. you might want to skip to another post!

  1. What was the first musical you ever saw?
Stage-wise, I think it was Saturday night fever for my 13th birthday. Adam Garcia played Tony and I know know the soundtrack word for word. I was sat in the stalls and David and Victoria Beckham were in the box above and to the right of me.  ***exclusive!*** I remember watching David eating a magnum in the interval! And Victoria waved to fans. This made a little 13 year olds day and I became obsessed with the soundtrack and I was always boring my Mum's BeeGees album!
If we're talking about a movie, it was Grease, one of my favourite films to this day.

2. What was your favourite musical growing up?
I loved Grease. When I was about 7 I saw a show on TV where someone was singing a song from it and my Mum told me it was her favourite film. From then on I needed to see it and became obsessed. I wrote down the words to the songs, did performances of it with my friends in the school playground and My 21st birthday party was Grease themed. I didn’t see the stage show for years but I actually felt really let down by it, I much prefer the film.

3. Were you ever in a musical?
I was part of the stage crew when our the school did our version of Grease. I was never one for performing in front of people. It’s quite hard to believe now really! All of my best ‘guy friends’ were the T-birds so it was really fun to be a part of.

4. What was the first musical you saw on Broadway?
For location’s sake let’s say West End instead of Broadway. And that was Saturday Night Fever. I plan to see a show on Broadway at some point in my life though.

5. If you could be any female character in any musical who would you be and why?
Eponine in Les Miserables. I really relate to her (not the dying in the barricades bit) fancying the absolute pants off someone when you can’t have them and you just do anything you can to be near them… ahhhh. I had a bit of a happier ending than she did though. Plus she has great songs!

6. Which male character?
Danny Zuko! I feel I know the part off by heart so it would be an easy choice. Though I did always want to play the part of the Artful Dodger in Oliver when I was younger -I'm not too sure why!

7. Favourite musical song to sing in the shower?
I’m always singing 'On my Own' from Les Miserables or ‘Oh my god you guys’ from Legally Blonde. 'Good morning Baltimore' from Hairspray is an excellent morning choice…. oh there are so many!

8. Who is your favourite theatre actress?
Everyone seems to love Idina Menzel but I’m not a fan, I’m not actually that big a fan of Wicked to be honest (bad memories), Kerry Ellis was amazing in We Will Rock You when I saw it -plus she went to Laines  Theatre Arts which is down the road from me!

9. Actor?
Alfie Boe or Adam Garcia. Both amazing for very different reasons!

10. Favorite film adaptation of a musical?
I absolutely adored Les Miserables but Hairspray is great too.

11. What do you think is most underrated musical?
Our House, the musical with songs from the band Madness. It's a great show about different choices a guy makes, very sliding doors and of course very catchy songs!

12. Overrated musical?
It's a very unpopular opinion here but Wicked… (sorry!) There are a couple of good songs but it just didn't do it for me.

13. What musical made you cry?
The Lion king, Les Mis and Our House ....all of them have a Dad that dies.

14. What musical made you laugh?
Avenue Q! It's so so funny! Legally Blonde is very funny too.

15. Are there any musicals you saw and hated?
I was disappointed by Chicago and Grease. Both films are much better. And I won't mention the one with the green lady again but...

16. What musical do you want to see as a film?
I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they turn Wicked into a film. We Will Rock you would be amazing! -I wonder if that will happen now that it's closing...?  I'm really looking forward to the Jersey Boys film when that comes out too.

17. Which musicals are you dying to see?
I Can't Sing, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Book of Mormon.

18. Any movie or book you think should be turned into a musical?
I would love to see Labyrinth turned into a Stage show…imagine it, just imagine it! Please someone make this happen while Bowie is still alive!

19. What is your all time favourite musical?
Les Miserables, Jersey Boys or We Will Rock You

Now I'm going to stick on a musical soundtrack and sing my little heart out!

Do you like musicals? I tag anyone that does to give this a go!... Please let me know if you do, I'd love to have a read!

Wrappz Phone Case

My bother has done a lot for me over the years. We've always got on, we never fight like 'normal' brothers and sisters. I called him boring when I was drunk once and I've never quite gotten over the guilt!
He let me have his bedroom when he was away at Uni and slept on the sofa when he visited at weekends. He welcomed in my boyfriend Sam when a lot of other people didn't think I was doing the right thing by being with him, he's now one of Sam's closest friends.
Recently he stuck by me when a mutual friend of ours screwed me over, he'll never know how much that meant to me. And mostly he's  an excellent uncle to Mason.

When I was contacted by Wrappz to review a phone case I knew this was one to pass on to my brother. He had just got a new phone and it was perfect timing really.

I love the idea that you can create any phone case you want, there are so many on the market but it can be hard to find something that's just right for you. It makes a great idea for a gift if you want to incorporate a photo that means a lot to you.

The process of ordering one is easy. You select the phone you want a case for and have the option to upload your own image or use one of theirs. You can even add stickers to your own pictures and add text to jazz them up a bit if you like.
You can move your picture by dragging and zooming in on it so you get it exactly where you like it. The designing is really all in your hands!

My bother is a big James Dean fan and he found this (...shall we say 'unique?') picture of him. That's the beauty of it, you can use a picture of someone you know or just create the case you've been looking for. I personally want one With a Mean Girls theme and I know this will be the place to create one! The phone was delivered in about 3 days and it fits well and is great quality.

This case retails at £19.99 and there's a case for pretty much every model so I really recommend you check them out.

Easter Nail Designs

It's all about pastels and polka dots for my nails this Easter. I've been getting a bit creative over the last couple of weeks and they seem to have a bit of a colourful theme. I blame the sunshine having this effect on me! Though I'm not complaining! With the help of my trusty Nail Art Pens I got to work on some Easter themed nail designs.

Simple clear coat with polka dot tips and polka dot filled accent nail.

Blue and Pink with glitter accent

Bows, dots, stripes, zig-zags and lots of colour!

Pastel Nails with glitter tips.

If you want to know any of the colours I used just ask me. It's mainly Barry M and Models Own so they are all easy to get hold of on the high street.

Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Range

Chatting about hair and beauty products is a perfect way to spend an evening in my eyes so the Bloggers Love Event in Leicester Square was right up my street (not literally). With a glass of wine in hand I wandered around and chatted to a few brands and found some great new products.

I was lucky to be able to try out the Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Range after chatting to the lovely girls from Umberto Giannini.

Umberto Giannini is a range I haven't tried before. I've seen it about but it's always been one of those brands that has just gone under the radar for me. I always love trying out new brands and with my hair being the longest it's ever been I can experiment with it a bit more. The Glam Hair range is all about plumping, lifting and creating big hair. Volume, lift and hold is what these babies are all about.

I really like the black packaging, it makes it stand out for my (many) other hair products. The black and silver is very rock chic, especially with the pictures of girls with crazy big, glamorous hair on the front. Here's a bit about the 4 products I got to try out.

Sex Bomb Massive Mousse £6
This is definitely not a light mousse, but it's perfect if you want a bit of oomf and some hold too. Scrunched into damp hair it gives you a great beachy look and applied to the roots and blow dried it gives you amazing volume. For short hair I can imagine this looks great on a big volumous bob with a lot of lift. It has a really lovely scent too.

Backcomb in a Bottle £6
This is a best seller and for good reason! A great deal of my hair's damage came from too much back combing. I used to figure it was the only way to get any sort of lift before I found the right products...
With this there's no need to backcomb, or at least not half as much as usual anyway. It feels like a light hairspray but a fine mist will give your hair lift and actually do most of the backcombing work for you -amazing, less damage! yay! Definitely use sparingly or it can get a bit wet and take a while to dry, you only need a light coat of it and you can build it up. I really think if you try anything from this range, it should be this!

Rock N Roll Extreme Hairspray £6
This stuff smells so nice, I hate the typical 'hairspray' smell so this was a complete winner for me. It gives an amazing strong hold without feeling sticky of crunchy. It ticks all the boxes basically.

Scrunch up the Volume Messy Texture Cream £5.61
Claiming to create lift, hold and texture I've actually found this one is better for my boyfriend with his shorter hair. It gives him a great messy look while keeping his hair controlled and still looks 'done'. It's sort of a bed hair look with out the...bed.

I really like this range and they are all getting a lot of use in my house lately. It's great that they smell so good as my room constantly smells like at least one of these each day!

Umberto Giannini products are currently 3 for £12 at Boots so it's the perfect excuse to give these a try!

Maybelline Bleached Neons - Sun Flare and Coral Heat

The sun is out, Spring is here and Summer is well on its way. I'm so excited for Summer this year, and in my case when the suns out, out come the neon nails! Neon goes great with a tan so with a little more skin on show it's only right to brighten up those nails too.

Whilst having a little wander around town at the weekend I saw a very little display in Superdrug with Maybelline's new Bleached Neons nail polish range. After a bit of research these were no where else to be seen, no reviews, not in any other stores, not even on Maybelline's website. Maybe Superdug decided to sneak them out early... With them seeming like a bit of an exclusive and there being a 'buy one get one 1/2 price' offer I just had to snap up a couple.

Sun Flare

Coral Heat

There are 4 colours in the range, a bright pink, coral, orange and green. It actually took all my strength and will power to not try them all but I opted for the 2 colours I know I would get a lot of use out of. The 2 colours I chose were Coral Heat -an amazing bright coral and Sun Flare -an orange-y peach with is so different from anything I've seen before.

Even with my stupidly large Nail polish collection (I have a problem!) there was no danger of me having a colour like either of these already. I've been searching for a bright neon coral for ages but I've never found one bright enough. It was so hard to photograph. It is brighter than it looks on here, trust me!

Maybelline really doesn't disappoint! Not only are they extremely bright, so much so that I don't think my pictures even do them justice, they are really long lasting too. I have been wearing Sun Flare for 3 days now and there is no sign of chipping. The formula is great, these only needed 2 coats and aren't wishy washy at all.

These were a complete bargain at £3.99 each (though one was half price so even better!)
I'll definitely be picking up the other 2 colours at some point.

Oh No, Not another Tag!

It usually takes me ages to do a tag when I am tagged in them so I thought I'd try and be organised with this one. Kirsty from Kizzy Hearts tagged me in this tag that was created by Hayley from Tea Party Beauty  -Have a little look at my answers!

The Rules:
You must include Hayley and the person who tagged you in the post (and the rules)
Once you've answered all the questions you need to tag 5 people.
Also if you tweet Hayley (@teapartybeauty) the link to your post, she will RT.
If you're tagged and don't do the post you will have bad luck for 68.5 years. FACT.

Scary stuff...

1. You've made it BIG and bagged some VIP Fashion Week tickets. You lucky devil you. But in your rush to get there and get yourself noticed you forgot your VIP Passes. The guy on the door says he will cut you a deal, you can go in only if you sacrifice either your Front Row seat, backstage privileges or goody bag. What's it gonna be?
It has to be the front row seats –the pressure of being dressed perfectly in the front row would be too much! Going backstage would be a great experience and the goody bag is the best bit!

2. You're making a new Subscription box, what 4 items and which dreaded perfume sample would you include in it?
I'd put in a decent nail polish remover, everyone needs one of those. Some false lashes - only subtle day time ones though, nothing too OTT so it would suit everyone. A coral lipstick and those little balls of bubble bath you used to be able to get in Body Shop! The perfume sample would have to be something from a Z-lister like Emilie. Do the Made in Chelsea stars have a scent out?

3. What's your biggest blogging bug bear? The one thing guaranteed to make your blood boil and have you screaming/eye rolling at your laptop?
Bloggers making up rules, it’s your blog. Do what you like!

4. No more joining in Twitter chats only slightly relevant to your blog. You can only join in one blogger chat a week for the rest of your blogging days, which one's it gonna be and why?
Without a doubt the #bbloggers chat. I love talking about anything beauty related and everyone is so lovely.

5. 'Fess up, do you actually own any MAC? If so what don't you like about the product?
I own quite a lot of MAC and I love it. I suppose the price is annoying, everything is nicer when it’s cheaper!

6. The blogging Gods ban arm swatching, which body part will you swatch on now?
Who are these Gods and why are they making my life difficult?! I never did care for religion... Right, well I’m assuming hands are  a no-go too? That’s too obvious. I guess it needs to be somewhere you can see without a mirror so… chest? Wouldn’t that just be a sight to see? People swatching their cleavage in Boots!

7. You can no longer have Yankee Candles and perfume bottles in the background of your shots, what other inanimate object will you choose?
Sweets! ….I actually like this idea. I’m going to try it.

8. Your blogs Instagram - is it for cats or meal shots?
Out of the two is has to be meals. I try to make sure mine is quite limited on the baby-front too, I know that can get pretty annoying. Mine is mostly of my shoes and nails!
