So this week I'm talking about Mascara. Mascara is the beauty product I couldn't be without. You can do your whole face but miss the mascara and you just look ill (in my opinion). It would definitely be my desert island beauty item.

I have pretty long lashes as it is but I still need something to emphasise them. I always think you should make the most of what you have, make your best features stand out. Eyes are the windows to the soul and all that....

enough of the cliches, I bloody love mascara!

I favour the big fluffy brushes rather than the plastic, smaller bristles.
Somehow I manage to poke myself in the eye more with the thinner ones... don't ask me how!

I always do my lower lashes first to avoid getting mascara on the top of my eye when I look up. I don't really layer the lashes, I tend to just build it up as I go. I find letting it dry and adding another coat often makes it look clumpy and so many mascaras are so good you only need one coat anyway.

L'Oreal's Big full brush

My ultimate favourite is L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene

It's so lightweight you barely feel you're wearing it but it still makes the lashes look so thick and amazing. It lasts all day and is really easy to remove. I couldn't ask for more really! It's only about a tenner so it doesn't exactly break the bank but is one of the more expensive mascaras on the high street.

I'm always hunting for another mascara as there's always a new one on the market that I think might be even better... but so far that's not been the case. Some come close, but I always end up back with my beloved Mega Volume Collagene.

I've recently purchased the Black Smoke version which gives a more matte effect than the usual glossy black mascaras so it's great for a smokey eye  ...there's something about  the formula that's not quite the same, I can't put my finger on it. It's still brilliant though, just the original L'Oreal MVC gives a better result for me.

L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Back Smoke

I'm a big fan of Maybelline mascaras too. They often have the bigger bristles that I just get on better with and Maybelline have better prices, especially when there's an offer on. They're a great cheap and cheerful option and you still get great results.

Maybelline Mega Plush is my current favourite of theres, it makes my lashes look really long and full and I find it great for day wear as it gives so much length to the lashes I don't have to wear a heavy eye make up to look 'done up'. I'm wearing it here...

Maybelline Mega Plush

I have one exception to my fluffy brush rule and that's Gosh Growth Mascara. This has a thinner rubber brush and it's is one that really does lengthen and separate really well. Usually I'm after something that gives a little more volume but for lengthening your lashes this is great. It also has Gosh's growth serum in it which claims to lengthen and thicken the lashes after 2 weeks use. I'm not sure about this as I tend to chop and change my mascaras depending on what look I'm after but nevertheless it really makes my eyes look bigger.

Waterproof Mascaras

I used to wear waterproof mascara all the time, I'd always say 'you never know when you're going to cry' -how very emo of me! But then I discovered than non waterproof versions were SO much better! And who really gets mascara all over their face when they cry anyway?

I've never found a waterproof mascara that I love. I find they stay really well, my favourites  being Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof and L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Waterproofbut they just don't do their job properly. My lashes always just look a bit -meh...I guess you cant have it all.

What''s your favourite mascara? Have you found a brilliant waterproof that looks good as well as stays put or should I give up hope?
