Planning the Honeymoon

Planning a wedding can be pretty stressful, we've been quite lucky as we agree on most things and have had the same 'vision' from day one. The one thing that has needed a lot more discussion is the honeymoon. We've agreed we both want a bit of luxury -  there's a been a fair bit of drama over the years and we deserve a proper rest! A honeymoon is a real excuse to treat yourself and make sure you have a once in a life time experience that you look back on with a smile. As beach lovers we know we we're after somewhere hot but that doesn't limit things down too much! We're spoilt for choice with so many incredible locations available to us.

We did a lot of brain storming and whittled the list of possibilities down from 18(!) to about 5.

One place that is a high contender is Dubai. It reached the short list as there was so much to do with a big selection of watersports, a chance to go sand boarding, visit the water park and the amazing underwater zoo. Of course the beaches are stunning and it's a great place to do a bit of shopping too. It ticks every box really. It's a perfect location if you're getting married in Winter or Spring as those months are a little cooler than the summer months when the temperatures stays in the mid thirties.

After visiting a few times in the past I'm keen to head back over to Caribbean. The lifestyle is just lovely, it's laid back but with the option to let your hair down and party if the mood takes you. You can see why it's a popular choice for newlyweds.

St Lucia and Antigua have beautiful white beaches and absolutely stunning resorts. They both have some interesting history too which is something Sam and I always love immersing ourselves in.

I make no secret of my love for Mexico. It's the place I recommend for everyone if they are looking for somewhere long haul. The food, the beaches, the people, it's just wonderful. The nightlife is amazing in Cancun, Coco Bongo is the best bar I've ever been to. The atmosphere is like nothing I've experienced before. Have some drinks and a dance while live shows go on above your head. You'll see Spiderman fly through the air, acrobats perform high above the crowd, Beatlejuice, Kiss, Micheal Jackson... the list goes on. Your drinks are included and waiters come over to take your order, there's no queueing at the bar at all- it's a must for anyone visiting Cancun.

One plan is to mix two locations and have a bit of rest and relaxation in the Bahamas and then fly over to Miami to soak up the atmosphere of vibrant nightlife, gorgeous scenery and shopping. Island hopping is a much easier option when it's just the two of us, it's not something we'd try to do with our son with us so it's something we would take advantage of. Popping on a flight to experience another country is a great way to mix things up and bit. My bother and his wife are currently doing the same thing in New York and LA.

The Bahamas are home to the world’s third largest barrier reef, which can be found just off the east coast of Andros. The reef includes a 6000ft abyss, known as the ‘Tongue of the Ocean’ which is home to sharks, stingrays and colourful tropical fish. So we'll do a bit of snorkelling and a boat tour, go to a couple of the historic monuments but generally take it easy with some massages and late night chats over cocktails - that's what honeymoons are for after all!

Another must see in the Bahamas is Pink Sands Beach.  Due to some of finely pulverised coral that has washed up on the beach, it has a pink tinge during the daytime and a deep rosy red during sunset. I can just imagine those instagram pictures now!

Getting the honeymoon sorted is definitely one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning and it's made my travel wish list even longer! Better get saving!
