Winter Project | Favourite Winter Scent

Well, week 3 of the Winter Project, it's going quick!

When I think of winter scents I think of Gingerbread, cinnamon, apple spice air fresheners but nothing stood out to me.

I toyed with whether I'd make this post about perfume or candles, after a bit of thought I couldn't narrow down my favourite candle or winter scent as such. But one scent I always turn to in the winter is my favourite perfume.

My favourite Winter Scent is without a doubt Christian Dior Addict. I've worn this for about 10 years now and I love it.

I never run out of  it as I have a bottle on standby and its the scent I carry around with me in my Travelo too.

I remember first seeing the shiny box it came in and thinking it looked pretty, then the bottle looked so luxurious, I just had to try it out. Then weirdly I remember thinking how nicely it sprayed out and dispersed, you could tell this was a high end perfume. Then the smell sold me completely. It has a lovely vanilla, floral smell to it and is really striking, I've not smelt anything like it.

It lasts all day and I love the scent it leaves on my scarfs and the seatbelt in the car!

I always get asked what perfume I'm wearing when out, which I take as a good thing!

It's about £36 for a small bottle which is totally worth it in my opinion.

Favourite Girly Films

It's the time of year where more evenings are spent cuddling up under a duvet with a cheesy film, one of those that you can just watch with no real concentration. I love those movies you can watch again and again. Whether just relaxing, or fighting off a cold/hangover, watching a chic flick is a perfect way to spend a couple of hours and relax.

I'm not going to get all 'film critic on' you, so for proper reviews go to IMDB but
these are just a few of my favourites...

Bridget Jones's Diary
"No, I like you very much, just as you are"
How could this not be in here? I love this film! I think everyone can relate to Bridget. Whether it's just not feeling good enough, feeling paranoid, choosing the wrong men, or a problematic family member, there are so many things to make you laugh and cry at this film. The opening scene when she's in her pjs singing 'All by Myself' is just classic. And of course there's the fight scene, brilliant! I'm not usually a fan of British rom-coms but this one I could watch again and again...and I do!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
"Does Princess Sophia want to come out and play?"
This film makes me laugh a lot. Kate Hudson is writing an article for a magazine on how to date a guy so badly that he leaves you, while the guy in question has a bet going with his mates that he can make a girl fall in love with him. Naturally you know they're going to fall for each other and there will be loads of ups and downs along the way. Totally predictable, but sometimes that's just what you want. It's so easy to half-watch it too, which is great as my attention span is terrible! Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey aren't too bad to look at either!

The Sweetest thing
"You're too big to fit in here"
I find this one is even good for guys to watch, it's got that sort of male humour in there, lots of sexual references and rude jokes. It mainly focusses on Cameron Diaz (another reason guys might like this one!) and her love life, with the other girls in there for added comedy effect. The song about being too 'big to fit in here' is great and Selma Blair getting in a bit of a pickle when performing a sex act on a man with a piercing is very funny. Of course with all the silliness there's a love story which all good chic flicks need.

Mean Girls
"You can't sit with us!"
Picking a quote from this one was so hard! It is the most quotable movie! Inspired by the book 'queen bees and wannabes' it's about the groups at high school and how you can get easily led by the wrong crowd. I've lost count of the times I've watched this. It's another film we can all relate to, haven't we all been personally victimised by a Regina George at some point?

"She's a full on Monet"
A 90's classic that just doesn't get old! The wardrobe just makes you cringe yet love it at the same time. Cher's one liners are excellent and it has it all, family dramas, Fall outs with friends, boy trouble, and a young Paul Rudd, what's not to like?

Legally Blonde
"Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people just don't shoot their husbands. They just don't."
This film makes me feel so girly! It's all the fluffy pens, shades of pink and girly outfits. She is like a walking Barbie with a total heart of gold. I love how she is judged on her looks, and comes out fighting. I watch this a lot when I'm getting ready as it puts me in a really good mood. It's such a feel good film and Elle Woods has a great wardrobe to look at too! I really recommend seeing this in the West End if you haven't already, it's really good!

This has put me in the mood to watch one of these now! Just which one?!
What are your favourite girly films?

Winter Project | Winter Accessories

So we kicked off last week's #WinterProject with a post on Winter Nail Polishes.

This week it's a chance for me to tell you about my Winter accessories. As I mentioned before I'm not much of winter person, so much so that I'm still in my summer clothes for as long as I can. Over time I just add some tights, boots, a jacket and then around this time of year I admit defeat and I have to start trying to be a bit more sensible as my body starts to go numb.

I just hate covering up a nice outfit with lots of layers ok!

So on top of my usual winter outfit, (either jeans/leggings based) I add a few extras.

One thing I do look forward to digging out is my Accessorize pashmina. I actually have it in a few colours as I love how soft it is. I wear my blue one the most, I went through a phase of wearing this colour so much that amongst my friends it became known as 'Jenn Blue'
Although some might say £20-odd for a scarf is a bit much, I certainly get the wear out of them!

My French connection boots are a firm Winter favourite. In fact they are probably my favourite item in my wardrobe. They are suede at the back and leather at the front with a gold buckle and wooden heel. I have these in both Brown and Black and I totally adore them. When I get upset that Summer's over I tell myself "it's ok, you can wear your boots again!"

I picked up a pair of ear muffs in Disneyland Paris a few years ago and they are so cute! Little furry Mickey Mouses which are so warm and are only subtly Disney so I don't feel like too much of a child wearing them!
Mickey Mouse Ear Muffs

Tights and some leg warmers over cute boots is another look I go for in the Winter too. I'm also very fond of knee socks!

When it snows (urgh) I have my DKNY snow boots which have a welly like texture to them and some great grip on the bottom too. I don't wear flats so these are the most sensible heels I could find for the horrible weather!
DKNY Boots while walking M back in January!

I'm still on the look out for a perfect winter coat but each year I give up trying! I'm more of a jacket person anyway to be honest and I just layer up with hoodies and long sleeve tops!

Looks like this post was mainly shoe based... oops! I guess that means boots are my favourite Winter accessory!

Bloom and Wild -Flowers through your letterbox!

I love sending flowers -I also love receiving flowers but that's beside the point! Surprise flowers are even better.

One thing that can put me off is the thought that the receiver might not be in to get them or if I send them to their work they then have to transport them home, something I have had to do before and it is a bit of a hassle getting on a packed tube with a big bunch of roses (I know, poor me...).

So when I saw that Bloom and Wild are a company that send fresh flowers not just to your door but through your letterbox I thought it was a great idea!

Your first worry might be that they would get damaged when they fall through the door, but that's not a problem at all. The flowers are so well packaged in a long, sturdy, cardboard box to keep them from falling about, the buds are cased in netting, while the stems have a little plastic cup over each end to protect them.

They even manage to make them look pretty before even getting them arranged and in a vase, as they are wrapped in cellophane and tied with a purple bow. There is also a card with a note and details of the flowers in the box.

The flowers picked for you are always in season so will be much better value for money.

The only thing you have to do yourself is arrange them but you have to do that with most standard bouquets anyway once you've trimmed the stems and put them in water.

All flowers really last the same amount of time from when they are cut, the difference is how long ago they were cut before you got them. They say their flowers last longer as unlike supermarkets and florists who have to go through stages such as being sat in warehouses and sitting on a shelf in a store, Bloom and Wilds flowers are cut, packed and shipped right away so your flowers will last much longer in your home.

My flowers lasted for a good week with the roses dropping first but the rest of the bouquet was gorgeous for a lot longer.

Prices start at £16.95 for a single gift bouquet so they are not only convenient but very affordable too.

They offer subscriptions too so you can treat someone (or yourself) to fresh flowers on a regular basis! You can opt to have them weekly, fortnightly or monthly which is great for the home or the office too. The fact that this can all be done online is another perk.

I really love this concept and I really recommend you give them a go if you are planning to send flowers any time soon!

#theWinterProject | Winter Nail Polish

I was a little late to the party with the So project but I joined in the last few weeks and I really enjoyed it. It was nice having a subject there already for us to write about.

So now we have a new tag to keep us inspired.

#thewinterproject has been started by Kellie with a lovely winter theme taking us through November to Christmas day. Seeing the line up of posts it makes me realise how close Christmas actually is!

I love this tag as I'm not much of a winter fan if I'm honest and this might be a way to take notice of the small things I enjoy about the season, who knows I might even be converted!

This week is about Winter nail polish.

When I saw this was the first post  I was a bit stumped. I have so many favourite nail polishes and they can easily be replaced by a simple offer in Boots and a lack of will power! I'm so fickle!

But I narrowed it down to these...

Nails Inc Kate Spade -New York Noir

I Love a black nail polish, It looks better when my nails are a little shorter really and I always add a glossy top coat as for me black looks best when it's super shiny! This was free with Glamour this month which was great for me as my black was getting a bit gloomy so it was perfect timing!

Barry M Textured Glitter Nail Paint -Duchess
I picked this up last week and have worn it mainly as an accent nail or on the tips but it's lovely as an all over colour too, perfect for Christmas. I love the pinky-toned glitter rather than the usual golds or silvers.

Essie -Bahama Mama
This is a new polish for this season and it's a great berry colour. Annoyingly I prefer the colour it gives with just one coat but it needs two coats for a better coverage. It's still a nice shade for autumn/winter -just not what I'm after.

Barry M -Mushroom
This is an old polish of mine that I rediscovered when going to buy an OPI shade that looked very similar. I often buy new shades almost identical to ones I already have without realising, I think that's why I have so many! Taupe colours are really in this season and I think this shade suits everyone.

Revlon - 680 Revlon Red
One thing I love about Revlon polishes is that the colours are written on the top, it makes it so much easier to find them! I love a red polish but it can sometimes seem a bit much, especially when my nails are on the long side. But I think red always looks lovely on toenails and this is my favourite shade of red.

If you are involved in the winter project please leave your link. I love seeing other people nail polish collections!

Vaseline Paint the Town Red Lip Tint

I'd kind of gone off the whole tinted Vaseline idea a while back, I tried a couple of their different tins, the pink, the creme brule, I also gave the aloe vera and cocoa butter a go. I was usually left a bit underwhelmed and Carmex became my go-to product for chapped lips. The tints just never seemed to show and I may as well have just used the original blue tin. Revlon lip butters were there to moisturise while adding the pop of colour and I was happy.

But naturally I was tempted when I heard that Vaseline had now released a red. A red was bound to show up...surely?

So I picked one up and immediately gave it a go, my very chapped lips are suffering this season!
Sadly I was left underwhelmed as usual. I'd fallen for the gimmick again! There was not really much of a hint of red at all if I'm honest, an ever-so-slight pink but nothing noticeable. It was so subtle that I was out one day and noticed Masons bottom lip was a bit chapped and as the Red tin was all I had with me I dabbed a bit on. You wouldn't have known -which is lucky really as a baby boy with red lips may have looked slightly strange.

I've found my perfect red tint with the added hydration in Maybelline's Baby Lips Cherry Me and that also has the lovely cherry flavour.

I actually have 2 tins of this stuff as one was bought for me, and I'm sure I'll get through it eventually but it's certainly not a 'must buy'  in my eyes.

...I do like the look of the tin though.

What did you think? Have you tried it? Did you love it or hate it?

Rimmel Salon Pro Soul Session and Barry M Textured Nail paint Duchess

So Boots had their 3 for 2 offer on again and I casually went in to get a new foundation and as always had to treat myself to one more thing (the other was free so it doesn't count... sort of!)
"Adding a fiver on top of what I was going to spend won't make a huge difference" I told myself. So I decided to add a couple of nail polishes to my metaphorical basket.

I'd seen someone wearing a lovely shade of dusky pink while out one day (OK it was an episode of Geordie Shore -don't judge me!) and I decided this might be the shade of pink I've been looking for! I have so many pink nail polishes but pink is one of those colours that never seems to look right on me. After trying a couple by Essie I noticed the Rimmel stand, I'd been meaning to try out the Salon pro range by Kate moss and when I tried Soul Session on my thumb nail I was sold!

It's a lovely dusky pink which has a nude tone too it so it's not too pink, which makes it really wearable for me. I love the shine it gives too. I was obviously in a pink mood as I swatched  the
Barry M Textured Glitter Nail paint in both Gold Majesty and Duchess and settled on the pinker toned Duchess (though no doubt I will add the other to my collection soon too!) I think I liked how it looked next to Soul Session

It works perfect as a nail accent but isn't too much to wear all over. It isn't a total bitch to remove either. It's textured but not so much that it catches on things and definitely isn't distracting at all like a lot of textured nail stickers. I only needed one coat to get a great coverage and for £3.99 it's a complete steal!

Rimmel Salon Pro Kate Moss in 'Soul Session' With Barry M Textured Nail paint in 'Duchess'

I love this new sparkly addition to my collection and I will no double get a lot of wear out of it over the next few months, especially over the Christmas period.
Both of these colours are now my new favourites, Soul session is just so wearable and subtle yet makes my nails look like I'm fresh out of the salon!

It's going to take all of my will power to not pop into Boots while the 3 for 2 offer is on and not stock up on some more colours.

Have you tried any of these ranges yet?
